What it is
An industry name for mixtures of cyclic siloxanes, typically dominated by D4, D5, and D6.
What it does
Volatile solvent and carrier that gives products a silky, dry finish.
Why it’s a concern
Because cyclomethicone mixtures include D4 (reproductive toxicant, vPvB) and D5 (vPvB) by default, the same EU restrictions apply. The label alone does not tell you which siloxane dominates. Choose D4/D5-free alternatives.
Also known as
cyclic silicones (mixed D4/D5/D6)
Commonly found in
antiperspiranthair serumprimer
Safer alternatives
- plant oils
- squalane
