Used in hair dyes, acne treatments, and some exfoliating products.
Why it’s a concern
ATSDR and multiple toxicology reviews describe thyroid-disrupting effects in animal studies, interfering with iodide uptake. Frequent cause of contact dermatitis. The EU restricts resorcinol in hair dyes to 1.25% and bans it in some cosmetic applications.
